SSH, which is an abbreviation for Secure Shell, is a network protocol that is used to transfer encoded info between a client and a website hosting server, which makes it impossible for unauthorized parties to intercept any info. Many tech-savvy customers prefer SSH due to the higher level of security. The connection is made and the commands are sent using a command line. The offered options depend on the type of web hosting service - on a shared server, in particular, files can be transferred or deleted, databases could be imported and exported, and archives may be created or unpacked. On a virtual or a dedicated server, your choices are much more - the web server and the database server may be started/stopped/rebooted, server-side software could be installed plus much more. These things are not possible on a shared server, because full root access is required and all the other customers on that server shall be affected. While SSH is employed predominantly with UNIX-like Operating Systems, there are SSH clients for other OSs as well - Windows, Mac OS, and so on.

When you have a cloud hosting account with us and you want to manage your content remotely using SSH, you can easily receive SSH access to the account using your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package deal doesn't include this feature by default, you may add it with a few clicks via the Upgrades menu. In the SSH section of the CP, you'll see the host, the port number and the username that you should use when you connect to the account. You may also pick what password you want to use, considering that it does not need to be the same as the one for the account. Moreover, if SSH access is allowed for your account, you will be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection by using a standard client such as FileZilla, for example.

In any case, you'll be able to activate and de-activate the feature with one click from the SSH section of the CP. In the same location, you will discover the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You'll also find a box in which you can easily type in the password you want to use, because it doesn't need to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better security, you may also change it as frequently as you want. An extra function after SSH access is activated shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client which supports this kind of connections.

All our virtual private server packages provide SSH access by default, so you will not need to include any upgrades or activate anything - as soon as the server is set up and you receive its login information, you shall be able to connect using its primary IP address and the login credentials which you have chosen throughout the signup process. As the VPS accounts include full root-level access, there aren't any restrictions in terms of the commands that you may run. Your server shall be isolated from the others on the physical machine, so you'll be able to manage more or less everything via a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. Thus, you can work with your files, databases and any apps you install in a fast and protected way.
